12 Days of Christmas
London is traditionally beautiful on Christmas days. Last year Regent Street greeted the Londoners
and the guests with very special and very traditional Christmas decoration. Each section of the lavishly
illuminated lacy garland illustrated one verse of the carol "Twelve days of Christmas". The decoration was
gorgeous and reminded that hundreds of years many generations used to know this carol by heart and sing
it at the Christmas Eve.
It came to my mind that as shown in cartoon by Aardman "Creature Comforts"
even the native speakers and locals impersonated by animals found it hard to explain the metaphorical meaning of this ancient anthem.
I wonder whether anybody now really knows the meaning of the lyrics.
