Out of the Box Interestingly, when we say that someone thinks out of (outside) the box or when thinking out of the box is required it is meant to show an extraordinary approach, to see things under different perspective, to be open minded (open the lid of the brainpan literally). It means creativity and action. But a solution out of the box is expected to be ready to go, no action is needed apart from unpacking the box. Bosses require software developers to think out of the box and create software products to be used out of the box. But who cares if most of us get it in a box every single holiday.
